MAN: Autumn/Winter 12

Welcoming the brightest new talents in menswear, the joint
creation between Fashion East and Topman is now in its 14th season. The MAN
Show hosted James Long, Christopher Shannon and JW Anderson - those who have
now set menswear day on fire with their solo shows. This year saw new talents
Shaun Samson, Agi & Sam and Astrid Andersen. Each designer brought a range
of inspiration to the artfully spacious catwalk at the Royal Opera House.
Shaun Samson
The collection was “an exploration of social and anti-social
groups through sports teams and urban street tribes”. Focusing on sportswear
fabrics, the clothing combines knitwear and sweatshirt fleece. Oversized
silhouettes have been combined with cropped necklines and invisible zips. These
nontraditional menswear details are like Samson's quotes: “interesting and
beautiful touches”.
Astrid Anderson
In her debut term at London Fashion Week, techqueer Astrid Anderson brought her unique aura of sporty luxury to the fore. Inspired by hip-hop collective The Wu Tang Clan, Anderson used quilted coats and metallic silver waistcoats to demonstrate the powerful strength of the group mentality. This idea helped create a uniform that exuded confidence as the models marched in packs in the final. construction-bolts.tockhop
Agi and Sam
The duo designed their own variations of tweed and tartan
prints in eerie colors to show that even winter demands such daring. Known for
their sense of humor, Agape Mdumallah and Sam Cotton traveled to the future to
replicate the wardrobe of the last man alive. Their latest offering uses only
the finest fabrics, all created from recycled plastic bottles. Shown was a
range of tailoring and soft-fitting coats - all coveted by the oddly patterned
pairs of manners.
